Tuesday 1st July.
Jaspers V’s Fire Flies. (16 ½ - 15 ½).
This was a particularly good game for us because as teams we are fairly well matched. We pulled every stop we could think of to play this game and all worked very hard. The first half was unclear to tell who was winning and it came a surprise to us to know that we were winning by two rounders, however we didn't become complacent and carried on working hard through the second. We had some great catches that got a few of their good players out, and gave us more confidence. Mog out by third base was doing a brilliant job and had the post covered all the
time. She was running everywhere and had complete control of that area. Leanne also played a fantastic game on first post, out of her normal position she played brilliantly. Man of the match went to Mog (Margaret)
Tuesday 24th June.
Jaspers V’s Anchor Gold. (10 ½ - 10 ½)
We started our game strong in the first half we fielded well with excellent runs from Frances making sure the balls arrived quickly. We were winning 8 to 2 at the end of the first half. We concentrated hard in practice about getting the balls back to the posts fast and it worked.
Second half unfortunately didn't go so well we allowed Anchor Gold to claw the rounders back, so we then had to put all our effort into just maintaining the score rather than trying to up it. We still however finished respectfully with a draw of 10 ½ to 10 ½. Man of the match was Kelly out on the left.
Tuesday 17th June.
Jaspers V’s Tangerine Tarts. (21 ½ - 13 ½)
Tangerine Tarts looked to us like a strong and comfortable team having played together for several seasons. We tried our hardest and pushed our game the first half even with Robyn sustaining an injury to the head, but it played off the second half we breezed through and won 21 ½ to 13 ½.
We had a joint decision for man of the match as most of the players we got out were on first post so our players of the match were combined Kirsty for backstop and getting the ball away quickly and Claire for first post and maintaining her nerve.
Tuesday 10th June.
Jaspers V’s G and T's (15 ½ - 49)
We began this match with an apprehension we hadn't felt before. The G and T's arrived at our pitch with a reputation for high scores and determination. Even so our determination matched if not beat theirs and in the first half we were doing well our fielding stayed strong and our batting was consistent. The second half saw a much stronger player in the line up of the opposition and unfortunately for our girls they over played us with some huge hits, which saw the ball flying for miles. However we all agreed that this was a great game for us to play as it really tested
and challenged us and has made us more aware and better prepared for next time. We are now able to build on our weaknesses.
Our man of the match was our captain Jody with outstanding play under pressure and constantly high spirits.
Tuesday 27th May.
Jaspers V’s Oliver’s. (20 ½ - 7)
This weeks match didn't start too well as we waited to start the match until 730 however the match started in our favour. We stretched the Oliver’s deep players as hit after hit from Flo found spaces in their fielding. The second half saw their left handed hitters being stopped by some great catches and fielding by Kate. Man of the match was Kate for the aforementioned work away from her usual position as backstop
Tuesday 20th May.
Jaspers V’s Legless Ladies. (13-9)
This week’s game was the game we have been waiting for. Jaspers. v. Legless Ladies. The game didn't start particularly well, with all our team getting within the space of five minutes, however our fielding has improved no end and we managed to keep the oppositions rounder's to a minimum. Our second half saw some brilliant work from our new player Sophie, and equally great work from our replacement backstop,
Kirsty, who usually plays out deep.
Persistence made sure that their best players were out quickly and we
finished the game winning with 13 rounders to 9. Claire on first post
was our lady of the match, due to her quick reactions and ability to stump the players out.
Tuesday 13th May.
Jaspers V’s Cherry Pips. (34 ½ - 45)
Coming off the back of last weeks confidence boost, we went into the match believing we could deliver the same standard of play. We won the toss for the game so we decided we would bat first. Our regular big hitters did us proud and we totted up a large number of rounders and half’s. Unfortunately, our fielding in this crucial first innings was not our best, and we were well deservedly beaten. With this blow we struggled through the second half but never really regained our confidence, and were beaten to a score of 34 and a half to 45.
A very good team to play, and a good learning experience. Frances was our player of the match with a fantastic game and outstanding throws.
Tuesday 6th May
Jaspers V’s Crazy Chicks. (16-18)
Today was our first opportunity to show how our team played, and we did well. The match started with Jaspers Batting. We had a few unfortunate balls, which went the way of first post, however persistence by our girls meant that we managed to make a good impression with several half rounders.
Fielding in the first innings was brilliant with some excellent work out deep and shallow by third and fourth. Second innings proved very good for us and we managed to draw some rounders in and a lot of half’s. Some excellent running by Jo, and big hits by both Jody and France’s saw us level with crazy chicks. Unfortunately our last fielding efforts saw some amazing hits from the other side and we lost 16-18. However a fantastic result for our first game, and very much enjoyed by all. A quick vote at the end made Robyn our bowler lady of the match, for some fantastic nerve and brilliant
bowls.
